The Sharks have officially confirmed the return of Siyamthanda “Siya” Kolisi, the revered two-time Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok captain, to their ranks. After spending an exciting season with French club Racing 92, Kolisi will rejoin the Hollywoodbets Sharks following the conclusion of his national duties, marking a highly anticipated homecoming for South African rugby fans.

Kolisi’s return to Durban comes after a fruitful experience overseas. Reflecting on his time with Racing 92, Kolisi stated, “My family and I have enjoyed a wonderful year abroad that has given us cherished memories. We have missed South Africa though, and it is time to come home.” He thanked Racing 92 for accommodating his request to return, adding, “It is a great club steeped in tradition with an impressive group of players, who I can now call brothers for life.”

Neil Powell, The Sharks’ Director of Rugby, expressed his excitement about having Kolisi back in the squad. “Siya is an influential player, whose leadership and passion is known and celebrated across the globe. We are glad that he has chosen to return to Durban and don the black and white jersey once again,” Powell said. He emphasized how Kolisi’s leadership and high standards elevate not just the team’s performance, but also its culture. “The positive influence he has on young players and the high standards that he sets for himself and those around him is beneficial to any team he is part of.”

Hollywoodbets, the title sponsor of The Sharks, also shared their excitement. Devin Heffer, Brand and Communications Manager, remarked, “We are thrilled to welcome our two-time World Cup-winning captain back to the Hollywoodbets Sharks! The addition of Siya to our line-up is incredibly exciting, and we are confident that our fans are eager to see him back in action at Hollywoodbets Kings Park.”

Kolisi’s homecoming promises to boost the Sharks’ fortunes as they look forward to a competitive 2024/2025 season. The return of the Springbok captain, whose leadership on and off the field is unmatched, is set to create a renewed sense of pride and anticipation for the Durban-based team.

Powell summarized the sentiment shared by many, saying, “Siya is a much-loved sports personality who has the respect and love of all South Africans, and I am sure that everyone will join us in welcoming our national hero back home.”

With Kolisi’s return, the Sharks are set for an exhilarating season, and rugby fans across the country can’t wait to see their champion back in black and white.
