DDP’s MHLONGO CALLS FOR EXTENSION OF TIME TO FORM GOVERNMENT

The Democracy Development Program NPC (DDP) Senior Program officer Mr. Siphamandla Mhlongo, has expressed concern that the time allocated to form a government after elections is too short.

Speaking at a press conference in eDurban today, Mhlongo said that the 14 days allowed to form a government after elections is insufficient.

“Sometimes political parties make irrational decisions due to pressure, and our country doesn’t have enough time to form a government, unlike Germany which takes six months to form a government,” said Mhlongo.

He suggested that South Africa should consider extending this period from 14 days to 90 days.
