Durban – Shane Jordaan who pleaded guilty to being in possession of more than 5000 images of child pornography rang in the new year at Westville Prison.
Jordaan was sentenced to 10 years in jail in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court in December.
The sentence was suspended for three years.
The 25-year- old was visibly upset following the sentencing his attorney Paul Ramasar told Daily News this week.
Jordaan was arrested in 2015 by Interpol.
He had been living with his grandmother in Pennington at the time of his arrest.
Police found 5 176 images depicting child abuse in a sexual light as well as 142 videos at the time of his arrest.
In August 2018 Jordaan pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.
Ramasar told the court that his client has not viewed any pornography in the last 3 years and that he should receive a correction supervision sentence and house arrest for three years.
Pietermaritzburg psychologist Clive Willows testified that Jordaan has the mental capacity of a 12-year-old child.
