Piet Weirsma, a Dutch athlete from the Nedbank Running Club International, has made history by winning the Comrades Marathon 2024. After finishing second last year, he returned stronger and claimed the top spot.
Weirsma’s impressive performance in the Scottville Racecourse, where he clocked 5:24:56, had given him the confidence to take on the challenge. He had also been training in Kenya for six weeks, fine-tuning his skills and preparing for the big day.
“I’m thrilled to have won this race,” said Weirsma. “I’m looking forward to continuing my training in Kenya. I think it’s time for me to become a fully time athlete.”
By winning the Comrades Marathon 2024, Weirsma has made history as the first Dutch athlete to achieve this feat. His determination and dedication to the sport are an inspiration to many.
