A video of an incident in which a Polokwane municipality employee locked himself inside a truck and ran over a law enforcement officer before crashing the truck against a building has surfaced online.

The employee identified as 36-year-old Walter Madubanya had apparently been told that he would not be promoted as expected which forced him into a fit of rage.

Madubanya allegedly drove the municipality truck over a municipal law enforcement officer several times and damaged seven vehicles.

His 55-year-old victim, a law enforcement officer was taken to hospital after sustaining serious injuries. He sadly succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The unfortunate incident happened at the municipality’s premises in Ladanna on 07 August 2020.

“He was allegedly in possession of a dangerous weapon and threatened anyone who came closer. When other employees tried to find out what was going on, he suddenly started jerkingly driving the truck,” Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said.

In the video, the truck being driven by Madubanya can be seen swerving across the premises hitting several cars on its path before it eventually crashes into a wall.

Seven vehicles parked on the municipality’s premises, including two police vehicles, were damaged during the ordeal.

In yet another unfortunate development during the same ordeal, Madubanya was allegedly shot point-blank when he got trapped after crashing the truck.

Another video shows the suspect immobilised in his truck wreck but a police officer allegedly shoots him before advancing towards him.

Madubanya is expected to appear in Polokwane Magistrate’s court after being denied bail on his first appearance.

He is facing murder and seven counts of malicious damage to property.
