The lives of residents in Nquthu have seen a notable uplift following a R30 million investment by the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) department to enhance basic services. This funding has enabled the rollout of solar street lights and electrified 500 households, marking a turning point in community safety and infrastructure.
On his visit to the municipality today, CoGTA MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi officially switched on 203 solar street lights and 2 mast lights, emphasizing the impact on Ward 9, which includes the town of Nquthu. “These world-class street lights are not only illuminating our streets but are significantly improving security in our communities,” said MEC Buthelezi.
The MEC also acknowledged former MEC Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi’s role in directing the investment, attributing the successful project completion to her vision and dedication to Nquthu’s development. “Her strategic foresight has truly helped transform the quality of life here,” he remarked.
In addition to the street lights, MEC Buthelezi handed over a water tanker to the municipality, aimed at enhancing water access while larger infrastructure projects progress. He also announced an additional R10 million funding to expand solar lighting across other wards.
Speaking to residents, MEC Buthelezi reaffirmed his commitment to furthering initiatives that will stimulate economic growth and improve living conditions. “We are dedicated to building a brighter, safer future for Nquthu,” he assured.
