The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta)Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi has made a heartfelt appeal for peace and stability in the Onyango villages of Nongoma, Ward 14, following a violent conflict between villagers that has resulted in 10 tragic fatalities.

“This meeting marks the beginning of the end of hostilities in the Onyango villages. We must come together as a community to restore peace and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents,” the MEC stated.

He further stressed the importance of allowing law enforcement to conduct thorough investigations into the killings, urging residents to cooperate with authorities to ensure justice is served. In an effort to restore harmony, the MEC announced plans for social engagements in December, which will include a soccer tournament and other activities aimed at benefiting both the youth and the elderly. These initiatives are intended to build trust and ease tensions within the community.

The peace call was echoed by other influential figures at the meeting, including Senior Members of the Royal Family, the Mayor of the Zululand District, Councillor Khumalo, and the Mayor of the Nongoma Local Municipality, Councillor Sikhakhane, all of whom urged for calm and the swift restoration of order.

The government remains committed to supporting the residents as they work towards a peaceful resolution and brighter future.
