The tranquil morning was filled with anticipation as women from all walks of life gathered at the SABC venue for the much-anticipated “Masikhulume” event. Aptly named after the Zulu phrase meaning “Let’s Talk,” the event focused on empowering women through open dialogue about real-life issues that impact their daily lives.
Mrs. Cebisile Mthembu, the MC for the day, brought a unique blend of humor and insight, immediately setting the tone for a day of engaging and informative discussions. As attendees arrived, the warm exchange of greetings and the gentle clinking of teacups created an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual support.
The event commenced with an opening prayer and a reflective Word of God delivered by the first speaker, Mrs. Nokwazi Dhlomo. Her message emphasized the importance of self-love and the need for women to embrace and support one another. “Women need to love themselves and each other,” she stated, grounding the participants in a sense of purpose and spiritual connection.
Following this, Mrs. Sthembile Dlamini took the stage with a talk titled “Health is Wealth,” where she addressed the often-overlooked topic of menopause. She urged young women to understand and respect their bodies, asserting that personal ownership of one’s body is paramount. “Your body belongs to you, not your parents,” she emphasized, offering practical advice on navigating the challenges women face daily. Next, Precious Nosifiso Chamane delivered a powerful speech on self-worth and financial discipline. She candidly shared her personal struggles with family and finances, urging women to recognize their own strength and capability. “You are enough, and you can do more,” she declared, inspiring the audience to take control of their financial lives and build stability.
The final speaker, Mrs. Thobile Ngcobo, provided valuable insights into the legal rights of women in marriage. Her talk was both enlightening and empowering, leaving attendees with a deeper understanding of how to protect their rights.
The event concluded on a high note, with the host, Mrs. Zanele Ngcobo, expressing her heartfelt thanks to everyone who made the event possible. She presented gifts to the guest speakers and shared the story of how the idea for “Masikhulume” was conceived and brought to life. “This is just the beginning,” she said, hinting at more events to come. The day ended with music, lunch, and a renewed sense of empowerment among the women who attended.
