EThekwini is on the brink of a massive transformation, with multi-billion rand investments poised to reshape the City and its economy. The development projects are projected to create 300,000 jobs, bringing prosperity to the region.
Mayor Cyril Xaba led the Executive Committee on an oversight visit to the City’s catalytic projects on 14 August. The visit covered developments worth R217 billion, with plans to further boost eThekwini’s investment and business confidence. These projects are essential to the economic growth of both the City and the KwaZulu-Natal region, generating jobs and expanding the rates base.
During his visit, Mayor Xaba inspected projects ranging from the Durban CBD’s Centrum Site and Durban Bay Waterfront to outer west developments like the Giba Business Estate and Shongweni. “The transformation of the Shongweni region is something to look forward to in the future. The Westown Square development served to boost confidence in the region,” he stated.
In the northern region, Xaba visited the Avoca Node, a 15-year program with potential investments exceeding R10.5 billion. Further north, the R6 billion Whetstone Business Park and Sibaya Coastal Precinct will generate thousands of jobs, reinforcing Durban’s position as a business hub.
“Durban has become a construction site, and it clearly shows that we are open for business,” said Mayor Xaba.
