In a powerful ceremony marked by pride and cultural reverence, a statue of the great AmaZulu King Shaka kaSenzangakhona was unveiled at King Shaka International Airport. The R4 million statue, a grand representation of the iconic Zulu king and leader, was formally inaugurated by President Cyril Ramaphosa, AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, and KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli.

 

President Ramaphosa honored the occasion by reflecting on King Shaka’s legacy, noting how his leadership shaped not only the Zulu nation but also impacted Southern African history. “King Shaka was more than a leader; he was a visionary whose strength and strategic genius united his people. Today, as we unveil this statue, we recognize the foundations he laid, which continue to inspire us as a nation,” Ramaphosa stated.

The towering statue captures the regal presence of King Shaka, a figure celebrated for his resilience, tactical brilliance, and dedication to unifying his people. King Misuzulu kaZwelithini emphasized the significance of commemorating his ancestor’s achievements, saying, “This statue is not merely a symbol of King Shaka’s greatness; it is a testament to the enduring strength and pride of the Zulu nation. It stands as a beacon of unity and a reminder of our heritage and values.”

 

KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli expressed gratitude and pride in the unveiling, highlighting the importance of remembering and celebrating the roots that ground the province’s people. “This statue serves as a historical landmark, reconnecting us with our past and instilling pride in future generations. King Shaka’s legacy will forever inspire KwaZulu-Natal and beyond,” Ntuli affirmed.

 

As the statue stands at the entrance of King Shaka International Airport, it not only welcomes visitors but also serves as a tribute to one of the most influential leaders in South African history, bridging the past and future of the AmaZulu legacy.
