MEC Rev. Thulasizwe Buthelezi handed over water tankers to the uThukela District.

KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has provided a much-needed boost to water access in uThukela District, handing over two 12,000-litre water tankers to aid communities facing inconsistent supply.

“This initiative is aimed at providing immediate relief to affected communities while longer-term solutions are underway,” said MEC Buthelezi. The tankers, which come fully staffed with drivers, relieve financial pressures on the district and Alfred Duma Local Municipality.

Expressing gratitude, uThukela District Mayor, Inkosi Ntandoyenkosi Shabalala, welcomed the relief effort, with Councillor Zama Sibisi highlighting its importance to local residents.

Major projects, including the Ezakheni water scheme, are anticipated by year-end, and in November, MEC Buthelezi will assess further water initiatives. He has also proposed elevating Alfred Duma Local Municipality to a secondary city to enhance funding access.
