The forthcoming second test rugby match between springboks and Ireland is now all set to take place at Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium on Saturday, 13 July at 4pm.

Springboks’ win of the first test against Ireland in Pretoria last week has raised the stakes. Historically, Ireland’s Springboks have played each other twenty nine times since they met for the first time in 1906. South Africa have won nineteen matches with Ireland claiming nine.

The game will attract a crowd of approximately 52,000 inclusive of 2,080 international visitors, 11,440 domestic overnight visitor and a total of 38,480 day visitors including residents from eThekwini.

Hosting this game would mean a direct spend of R125 million and Gross Domestic Product contribution of R309 million while creating 559 jobs in eThekwini. According to EThekwini Deputy Mayor Councillor Zandile Myeni, “Hosting such sporting events are known to uplift local tourism sector as well as the economy generally.”

Moreover, she added that Councillor Myeni noted that following the successful Hollywoodbets Durban July more foreign visitors will be accommodated boosting the sectors accommodation and tourism.” She concludes by saying that through Durban Tourism; eThekwini will be abuzz with various activations happening on the King’s Park Outer Fields. There will be Zulu dancers, rickshaw pullers, and other tourism products on display to showcase what Durban has to offer.”

 

City teams have already begun a massive pre-match clean-up operation around the City and stadium precinct, part of a long-term program to ensure a clean environment and revitalize tourism in eThekwini. Residents and visitors are encouraged to maintain cleanliness by following proper waste management practices and using the strategically placed street litter bins around the stadium.
