KwaZulu-Natal is reeling from yet another tragic accident, this time on the N2 between Bridges 17 and 19 in Mandeni, where eight people lost their lives in a devastating collision.

The accident occurred when a 7-seater light motor vehicle lost control, veering into the oncoming lane and colliding with a truck. The truck then overturned, creating a chaotic scene on the road. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene.

KwaZulu-Natal authorities expressed their grief over the incident. “Our hearts are with the families and relatives of the eight victims of this horrific road accident,” said a spokesperson. “What saddens us even more is that the victims include young people with promising futures.”

The N2 has been closed in both directions between Bridges 18 and 19 to allow rescue teams to assist those affected. “We request motorists to drive carefully as we manage this delicate situation,” the spokesperson added.

Motorists are being rerouted via alternative roads. Traffic moving southbound is being diverted at Dokodweni into the R102, while northbound traffic is diverted at Mandeni onto the R102. Emergency services are continuing their efforts, but the road is expected to remain closed for some time.

This tragic accident has once again brought attention to the critical need for road safety and vigilance, especially on high-traffic routes like the N2.
