The Zulu King, His Majesty Misuzulu kaZwelithini, has strongly criticized men who perpetrate violence by abusing women and children.
The King made these remarks during a speech at an event organized by The Goodman Foundation, led by Mr. Simangaye Xaba, at The Station Urban in Durban today. The event focused on fighting the scourge of gender-based violence and child abuse.
The event commenced with a peaceful march led by His Majesty, which started at Gugu Dlamini Park and ended at Station Urban. The march aimed to promote peace in the community and oppose violence against women and children. This event aligns with the national 16 Days of Activism campaign against gender-based violence, running from November 25 to December 10.
“What brings us together here is a disgrace. Apart from this issue, our nation is respected worldwide. Our throne is revered globally, and this is why I stand firm because this is my problem. I must protect women and children in KwaZulu,” said His Majesty Misuzulu.
Adding her voice to the cause, Sindisiwe Chikunga, Minister of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, emphasized South Africa’s commitment to combating gender-based violence. “We stand united with the world in the fight against the scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), as South Africa is a proud member of the United Nations. A study conducted by the Human Sciences Research Council confirms that women face abuse in countless forms and ways,” she said.
This year marked the fourth installment of the event, which was attended by various stakeholders, including private companies, government representatives, non-governmental organizations, traditional regiments, and members oft he public.
