In a surprising turn of events, the eThekwini municipality council meeting held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban witnessed an unprecedented show of unity between Democratic Alliance (DA) and African National Congress (ANC) counselors.

The meeting, which was expected to be contentious, saw counselors from both parties putting aside their differences and working together in a spirit of cooperation.

This newfound unity is believed to be a result of the Government of National Unity (GNU) decision, which has brought about a sense of cooperation among political parties. The election of the Mayor, which was scheduled to take place today, has been postponed due to the GNU negotiations.

EThekwini Municipality Speaker, Mr. Thabani Nyawose, acknowledged the delay in the election but expressed his commitment to ensuring the process succeeds. “I will push for the election of the Mayor to happen as soon as possible so that our programs can run smoothly in this municipality,” Nyawose said.

This development marks a significant shift in the political landscape of eThekwini, and it remains to be seen how long this unity will last.
