The 97th edition of the Comrades Marathon, renowned globally as one of the most prestigious ultramarathons, is poised to captivate enthusiasts worldwide on Sunday, June 9. With over 20,000 dedicated runners converging at Durban’s City Hall, anticipation is high for the rigorous 90km journey to Pietermaritzburg.

Esteemed contenders such as Tete Dijana and Gerda Steyn headline the event, both poised to leave an indelible mark on the challenging terrain. Dijana, representing the esteemed Nedbank Running Club, underscores the importance of strategic pacing. “Maintaining a steady pace is crucial to navigate the unpredictable course. I’m confident in my preparation and eagerly await Sunday’s showdown,” he affirmed.

Steyn, a formidable presence in the women’s category from the Phantane Athletics Club, exudes determination to uphold her reigning title. “The competition will be fierce, but I’ve honed my skills and endurance. I’m ready to defend my championship,” she declared with conviction.

In an announcement by the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA), this year’s event promises heightened intensity with modifications to the route and a formidable lineup of contenders. The race kicks off at 5:30 am in Durban, culminating at 5:30 pm in Pietermaritzburg, promising an arduous 12-hour odyssey for participants.
