The EThekwini Municipality has instructed all political parties to remove their campaign posters, as the election period has ended.

The deadline for removal is June 30, and failure to comply will result in legal action and fines. According to the municipality’s bylaws, parties that fail to remove their posters will be charged R1,193 per poster.

Acting Manager General Advertising in the Development Planning Unit Mr. Sagren Naicker, stated that parties were allowed to put up 800 posters during the election period.

“If the parties fail to remove their posters, the municipality will remove them and charge the parties accordingly,” Naicker said.

Musa Mbhele, the Municipality’s Manager, emphasized that the election period has ended, and campaign posters must be removed.

“We are enforcing the decisions taken at the council meeting regarding poster removal. This will help keep our city clean, as these posters are an eyesore and obstruct other advertisements,” Mbhele said.‎
