Gerda Steyn, a athlete from the Phantane Athletics Club, has made history again by winning the Comrades Marathon for the third time, finishing with a time of 5:49:46 in the women’s category. Steyn broke her own record set in 2019, when she won the race with a time of 5:58:52, becoming the first woman to complete the race under 6 hours.

“I’m overjoyed, this is my biggest day, it’s a blessing to be here. I thank everyone who supported me, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me achieve this milestone. I dedicate this victory to all South Africans, and I’m grateful for their support,” said Steyn.

The athlete revealed that she had worked hard to improve her performance, sticking to her training program and focusing on her goals. Steyn is now setting her sights on the Olympic Games in France in August, and her victory in the Comrades Marathon is a promising sign of things to come.
