The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced the results of the by-elections held in various municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on June 19. The results show a significant win for the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), which secured seven wards out of the 12 contested wards.

In the uMzumbe Municipality the IFP won wards, 2,9 and 19.
The African National Congress (ANC) managed to win only two wards (1 and 3). The MKhonto weSizwe Party (MK) won ward 11.

In the Mthonjaneni Municipality, the IFP won ward 10, while in the Nongoma Municipality, the IFP won ward 11. The IFP also won ward 15 in the Phongolo Municipality and ward 10 in the Mvoti Municipality.

In the Mzimkhulu Municipality, the ANC won ward 1, and in the Newcastle Municipality, the Democratic Alliance (DA) won ward 5.

This by-election result indicates a significant shift in support for the IFP in KZN, with the ANC losing ground in several municipalities.
