The KwaZulu-Natal(KZN) government has dispatched a high-level delegation to assess the damage caused by the recent floods in eThekwini, particularly in the Magwaveni area of OThongathi, north of Durban. The floods, which occurred on June 3, resulted in seven deaths and displaced numerous families.
The delegation, led by KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube, includes the MEC for Health, Nomagugu Simelane, the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi, the MEC for Human Settlements, Sipho KK Nkosi, and the Mayor of eThekwini, Mxolisi Kaunda.
Speaking during the visit, Premier Dube-Ncube expressed condolences to the affected families and promised that all government departments would work together to provide support and resources to those in need. “We will do everything possible to help those affected by this disaster,” Dube-Ncube said.
“We are grateful for the support, but we still need assistance with food, shelter, and other basic necessities,” said Balungile Madondo, a local resident.
