Former soccer star Siyabonga “Nsimbi” Sangweni’s Youth Month Festival is back for its 14th edition, with a promise to be bigger and better than before. The festival, which was launched yesterday, June 27, 2024, in Mbonambi, will take place from June 28 to 30, 2024, at the Siyabonga Sangweni Sport Complex in Dondotha, Empangeni.

Sangweni, who played for top teams like Lamontiville Golden Arrows, Orlando Pirates, and the national team Bafana Bafana, said the tournament has grown significantly over the years and is expected to attract top teams and players from KwaZulu-Natal.

“The teams participating in this tournament have top players who have played in prominent leagues in the province. As there will be scouts, players will have to give their all to impress and get contracts with Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams,” Sangweni said.

The festival will feature various sports, including soccer, netball, indigenous games, and snooker. Twenty-four teams will compete for a prize of R100,000. This year’s edition has seen an increase in women’s teams, with eight teams participating.

The festival is supported by the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture, the King Cetshwayo Local Municipality, the uMfolozi Municipality, Hollywoodbets, and the Siyabonga Sangweni Foundation.
