The community of Mthwalume in southern KwaZulu-Natal is in shock after three people were shot dead in a drive-by shooting today.
The incident occurred after the victims had left a local court. It’s reported that the victims were VIP Protection Security in Mthwalume. The three were shot while driving in their car, allegedly by occupants of another vehicle.
A community member who wished to remain anonymous expressed concern about the safety of the area, saying that the incident had left them feeling uneasy. “We don’t know the motive behind the shooting, but it’s clear that it was a targeted attack,” they said.
KwaZulu-Natal Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker confirmed that the police are investigating the incident. Naicker said the suspects fired shots at the victims’ vehicle, and the occupants of the other vehicle were also injured. “The suspects fled the scene, leaving behind their vehicle,” Naicker said.
He added that the motive behind the shooting is still unknown, but police in Hibberdene are investigating three counts of murder.
